RHH Arena continues industry visits in Rogaland County: Hydro and Haugaland Park

As part of the Risavika Hydrogen Hub Arena (RHH Arena) project, partners from NORCE and Energy Transition Norway visited Haugaland industry park and Hydro Karmøy on June 24 of 2025. The purpose of these industry visits was to continue to map hydrogen actors across the value chain in Rogaland, and to better understand industry needs in terms of technology development, competence, market conditions, and collaboration opportunities.
At Haugaland industry park, discussions centered on how the park contributes to regional value creation through new jobs, industrial synergies, and sustainable operations. With significant infrastructure developments underway – including Statnett's new 420 kV power line and the potential connection to Utsira Nord – the park is positioning itself as an energy hub. The park's owners and administration showed a strong interest in learning more about low-carbon hydrogen and CCS opportunities, as well as joining collaborative arenas such as RHH to share experiences, build competence, and develop new partnerships.
At Hydro Karmøy, RHH team learned about the company's ongoing decarbonization projects, including pilots in green hydrogen, biometan, and CCS. While Hydro has scaled down its direct hydrogen production ambitions, it remains highly interested in collaborative initiatives – especially in industrial symbiosis, use of residual heat, and CCS solutions. Hydro Karmøy expressed interest in active participation in RHH Arena, underlining the importance of local presence and knowledge sharing.
These industry visits confirmed a strong appetite among Rogaland-based companies for arenas that foster trust, knowledge exchange, and collaboration across value chains. RHH Arena aims to meet this need by connecting research, industry, and public authorities to accelerate the development of new hydrogen-based and low-emission solutions.
The RHH Arena kick-off event is planned after the summer.
